Who Can Participate
Eligibility Criteria
You may qualify if you...
- Physician-diagnosed asthma documented in electronic health records
- Persistent asthma or uncontrolled asthma despite therapy, based on age-specific symptoms and medication use
- Age between 4 and 12 years, attending pre-kindergarten through 7th grade in public, charter, or private schools in New York City (primarily the Bronx) or lower Hudson Valley (Eastchester, Westchester, Rockland, Yonkers)
- Caregiver able to speak and understand English or Spanish; verbal survey administration available for participants unable to read
- Consent from primary caregiver and assent from child age 7 years or older
- Access to a phone for surveys and a smartphone, iPad, or computer to electronically complete and e-sign the medication administration form
You will not qualify if you...
- Family plans to leave school or city within 6 months
- Significant medical conditions such as congenital heart disease, cystic fibrosis, or other chronic lung diseases
- Children in foster care or situations where legal guardian consent cannot be obtained
- Participation in another asthma intervention study
- Severe developmental delay, such as severe autism, preventing completion of asthma control questionnaires
