What this Trial Is About
Researchers are evaluating the Promoting Health Through Play Opportunities program to support children aged 3 to 5 years and their parents, focusing on improving parent and child play interactions and the child's social-emotional development. This strength-based intervention aims to empower parents to foster healthy play within the family environment, potentially enhancing the child's psychological adjustment and the parent's satisfaction with their involvement. The program includes two parts: five 45-minute online group sessions for parents and one 30-minute guided online play session involving the parent, child, and either an occupational therapy student or occupational therapist. Training involves asynchronous modules with presentations, role play, and discussions designed to support parents in promoting playful interactions. Participants will be involved over approximately six weeks, during which researchers will assess changes using video-recorded joint play activities and standardized questionnaires measuring child playfulness, psychological adjustment, and parent support. Parents will also provide feedback through open-ended questions. The study requires access to devices suitable for online sessions and stable internet, with groups offered in English and Spanish.
