AI-Summary

What this Trial Is About

Researchers are conducting a population-based prospective cohort study to examine cerebral small vessel dysfunction in a Chinese community. The study aims to determine how common this dysfunction is, its characteristics, and how it changes over time. It also investigates how vascular risk factors affect cerebral small vessel dysfunction, cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases, cognitive dysfunction, and mortality. This research focuses on adults aged 50 to 75 years living in the Daxing District of Beijing. No interventions will be performed in this study. Participants will undergo various assessments including brain magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) to detect cerebral small vessel disease markers and blood vessel conditions. Other tests include transcranial Doppler ultrasonography, carotid ultrasound, electrocardiograms, peripheral vascular exams, fundus exams, gait and eye movement assessments, and body composition analysis. Biological samples such as fasting blood, urine, feces, and oral plaque will be collected to study genetic and metabolic markers. Follow-up visits with repeated assessments will occur every two years over an eight-year period. Participants will provide information through face-to-face interviews on demographics, lifestyle, medical history, and cognitive function using standard scales. Annual follow-ups will track cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases and mortality. Brain imaging, ultrasound tests, cognitive assessments, and sample collections will be repeated at 2, 4, 6, and 8 years. The study will measure cerebral small vessel disease, neurovascular coupling, cerebral perfusion, cerebral autoregulation, and resting blood flow to understand brain health over time.
