Who Can Participate
Eligibility Criteria
You may qualify if you...
- Prediabetes with fasting blood sugar between 100 and 125 mg/dl
- Type 2 diabetes with fasting blood sugar above 126 mg/dl
- Overweight or obesity with body mass index (BMI) between 25 and 50 kg/m2
You will not qualify if you...
- Other types of diabetes besides type 2
- Insulin treatment
- Shift work
- Weight changes greater than 5% in the past 3 months
- Systemic glucocorticoid therapy
- Systemic infections
- Severe anemia
- High blood pressure over 180/110 mmHg
- Endocrinologic, liver, or heart disorders
- Immune diseases
- Thyroid dysfunction
- Recent heart attack or stroke
- Cancer within the last 2 years
- Eating disorders, food intolerance or allergy, addiction disorders, digestive, intestinal, liver, or cardiovascular diseases
- Hereditary or acquired coagulation disorders
- Continuous use of blood thinners that cannot be stopped
- Specific diets or intermittent fasting
- Pregnancy or breastfeeding
- Severe internal or psychiatric disorders or other conditions or drug therapies that might affect study outcomes
