Lung cancer is often diagnosed at advanced stages and remains the leading cause of cancer-related deaths worldwide. Many patients with advanced lung cancer experience cancer cachexia, a condition that leads to loss of muscle and fat mass, increasing risks of complications, longer hospital stays, and poorer survival. This research aims to explore how a pulmonary rehabilitation program affects lung function, muscle mass, exercise tolerance, inflammation, quality of life, and overall survival in patients with advanced non-small-cell lung cancer who are receiving chemotherapy or targeted therapies. Participants will be randomly assigned to either an intervention group or a control group. Those in the intervention group will attend 12 pulmonary rehabilitation sessions lasting about 60 minutes each over 4 to 6 weeks, including breathing exercises, resistance training with ergometers and treadmills, progressing based on individual tolerance. The control group will receive information and advice on physical activity. Both groups will have nutritional assessments and interventions if needed. During the study, participants will undergo assessments of lung function, muscle mass, inflammatory response, exercise tolerance, quality of life, anxiety, and depression before and after the 12 rehabilitation sessions. Researchers will monitor these outcomes to evaluate the effects of the pulmonary rehabilitation program. The total participation period includes these 6 weeks of sessions with follow-up assessments to measure changes and overall survival.
