This randomized waitlist control trial will evaluate the effects of a psychoeducational intervention called Resources for Enhancing All Caregivers' Health - Traumatic Brain Injury (REACH TBI) to decrease caregiver strain (primary outcome) and improve caregiver self-efficacy, anxiety, depression, and health care frustrations (secondary outcomes). This study will modify and adapt an award-winning caregiver intervention, Resources for Enhancing All Caregivers Health in the Department of Veterans Affairs (REACH VA), to support the needs of Caregivers of Veterans and Service Members with TBI.

Who Can Participate

Age: 18Years +
All Genders

Eligibility Criteria

Eligible

You may qualify if you...

  • Identify as a primary caregiver for a Veteran or Service Member who sustained a traumatic brain injury at least 6 months prior
  • Have provided care for this person for at least 6 months
  • Provide daily supervision or assistance with physical, cognitive, or behavioral issues likely related to the traumatic brain injury
  • Believe that at least half of caregiving responsibilities are related to the traumatic brain injury
  • Score 8 or higher on the Zarit Burden Inventory-4 indicating high caregiver burden
Not Eligible

You will not qualify if you...

  • Do not have access to a telephone
  • Have a current diagnosis of schizophrenia or another major mental illness
  • Have hearing problems that make telephone use difficult
  • Believe that more than half of caregiving is for issues related to other health conditions rather than the traumatic brain injury
