Who Can Participate
Eligibility Criteria
You may qualify if you...
- Diagnosis of idiopathic Parkinson's syndrome by Movement Disorders Society criteria
- Treatment with bilateral deep brain stimulation in the subthalamic nucleus (STN) for study parts 1, 2, and 3
- At least 3 months since STN-DBS surgery (for parts 1, 2, and 3)
- Able to provide informed consent by signing
- Fluent in Swiss-German or German
- Presence of STN-DBS-induced dysarthria, defined as worsening speech linked to STN-DBS implantation or improvement with reduced stimulation during follow-up
You will not qualify if you...
- Dysarthria caused by conditions other than Parkinson's disease or DBS (e.g., stroke, myasthenia)
- Clinical diagnosis of aphasia
- Inability to follow study procedures due to language issues, psychological disorders, or dementia (MoCa score 20 or below out of 30)
- Change in Parkinson's medication within 4 weeks before inclusion in parts 1 and 3
- Change in STN-DBS settings within 4 weeks before inclusion in parts 1 and 3
- Depression with acute suicidal thoughts
- Pregnancy
