Eligibility Criteria

Eligible

You may qualify if you...

  • Diagnosed with type 1 diabetes mellitus
  • History of severe hypoglycemia and/or hypoglycemia unawareness
  • History of severe hypoglycemia with blood glucose below 54 mg/dL requiring assistance
  • At least 2 blood glucose values below 54 mg/dL during 2 weeks of CGMS testing in the week before the study
Not Eligible

You will not qualify if you...

  • Age under 18 years or over 55 years
  • Body weight over 85 kg at screening
  • Body mass index over 30 kg/m2
  • Untreated proliferative retinopathy
  • Carrying glutathione transferase Z1 (GSTZ-1) gene polymorphisms that increase risk of dichloroacetate toxicity
