Who Can Participate
Eligibility Criteria
You may qualify if you...
- Diagnosed with type 1 diabetes mellitus
- History of severe hypoglycemia and/or hypoglycemia unawareness
- History of severe hypoglycemia with blood glucose below 54 mg/dL requiring assistance
- At least 2 blood glucose values below 54 mg/dL during 2 weeks of CGMS testing in the week before the study
You will not qualify if you...
- Age under 18 years or over 55 years
- Body weight over 85 kg at screening
- Body mass index over 30 kg/m2
- Untreated proliferative retinopathy
- Carrying glutathione transferase Z1 (GSTZ-1) gene polymorphisms that increase risk of dichloroacetate toxicity
