Who Can Participate
Eligibility Criteria
You may qualify if you...
- Be able to give written informed consent.
- Be between 18 and 50 years of age.
- Have a body mass index (BMI) between 18.5-29.9 Kg/m2.
- Be in generally good health as determined by the investigator.
You will not qualify if you...
- Are less than 18 or greater than 50 years of age.
- Have a BMI below 18.5 or above 29.9 Kg/m2.
- Have any significant acute or chronic illness, including cardiovascular, gastrointestinal (such as functional GI disorders, inflammatory bowel disease, coeliac disease, lactose intolerance, food allergies), immunological, psychiatric (including major depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, or other DSM-IV Axis I disorders), neurodevelopmental, metabolic disorders (including type I or II diabetes), or any condition deemed unsafe by the investigator.
- Are taking medications that could interfere with study objectives or safety, including psychoactive drugs (anxiolytics, antipsychotics, antidepressants, anticonvulsants, corticosteroids, opioid pain relievers), laxatives, enemas, antibiotics, anticoagulants, or over-the-counter NSAIDs without a 4-week washout period.
- Currently use prebiotic or probiotic supplements without a 4-week washout.
- Are peri-menopausal, menopausal, or post-menopausal females.
- Are pregnant, planning pregnancy, or lactating.
- Are not fluent in English.
- Are color blind.
- Have dyslexia or dyscalculia.
- Are a daily smoker.
- Are considered unlikely to comply with the study.
- Are receiving treatment with experimental drugs or participated in an experimental trial within the past 30 days.
- Have malignant disease or end-stage organ disease.
- Have participated in this laboratory's study within the past 4 years.
