Study of Heart Function Changes Over Time in Patients With ST-Elevation Myocardial Infarction STEMI After Treatment

Researchers are studying patients diagnosed with ST-elevation myocardial infarction STEMI who have undergone primary percutaneous coronary intervention pPCI. The study aims to evaluate changes in left ventricular function and remodeling over the long term by collecting detailed clinical and laboratory data, including inflammatory markers and heart imaging results. This observational study is sponsored by the University of Pisa and focuses on understanding heart changes after STEMI treatment. During the study, extensive tests are performed including transthoracic echocardiograms TTE at admission and before discharge, as well as cardiac magnetic resonance CMR imaging before discharge to assess heart tissue and damage. Follow-up visits at six months repeat laboratory tests, CMR, and TTE alongside a full clinical evaluation. The study monitors criteria indicating left ventricular remodeling LVR, such as increases in heart chamber volumes and changes in heart function. Participants will have their heart health closely observed through imaging and lab tests at key time points, including initial hospital admission, before discharge, and six months later. Researchers evaluate heart structure, function, and injury markers to understand remodeling processes after STEMI. The primary outcome is remodeling assessed over 36 months, with ongoing clinical evaluations to track heart function and complications.
