Eligibility Criteria

Eligible

You may qualify if you...

  • Type 2 diabetic patients diagnosed using American Diabetes Association 2022 criteria
  • HbA1c between 7.0% and 8.5%
  • Sarcopenia diagnosed using Asian Working Group for Sarcopenia 2019 criteria
  • Age 60 to 80 years
Not Eligible

You will not qualify if you...

  • Acute diabetic complications
  • Acute phase musculoskeletal disorders such as acute gout, progressing low-grade arthritis, acute joint pain from degeneration, sciatic pain, or infectious arthritis
  • Conditions severely affecting cognition or mobility including stroke sequelae with weakness or paralysis, muscular weakness, limb disabilities, severe heart failure, severe cognitive decline, and psychiatric disorders
  • Bedridden due to illness for over 1 month in the past 3 months
  • Cardiovascular diseases including chest pain, uncontrolled blood pressure ≥160/100 mmHg, untreated arrhythmia, history of congestive heart failure, severe valvular heart disease, myocarditis, pericarditis, or hypertrophic cardiomyopathy
  • Renal failure with estimated glomerular filtration rate <60 ml/min/m3 or serum creatinine ≥130 µmol/l
  • Treatment with Sodium-glucose cotransporter 2 inhibitors (SGLT2i)
