Who Can Participate
Eligibility Criteria
You may qualify if you...
- Age over 18 years
- Open angle in gonioscopy (grade 3 or 4 in Shaffer classification)
- Refractive error within +3.00 to -8.00 diopters
- Best-corrected visual acuity 20/25 or better
- Participants in one of three groups: Early glaucoma with visual field defects on one side, pre-perimetric glaucoma with optic nerve damage but no visual field loss, or control subjects with no family history of glaucoma and normal ocular exams
- Early glaucoma subjects must be off glaucoma medications for 4 weeks
- Control subjects age matched to early glaucoma subjects
You will not qualify if you...
- Corneal abnormalities or other conditions preventing reliable eye pressure measurement
- Retinal diseases affecting nerve fiber layer thickness
- Secondary glaucoma
- Prior ocular surgery except uncomplicated cataract surgery or laser trabeculoplasty
- Unable to safely stop glaucoma medications for 4 weeks
- Unable to obtain OCT angiography due to eye movement or fixation issues
- Unreliable visual field tests
- History of smoking in past 6 months
- Cataract with lens opacity classification system Grade 2 or higher
- Diagnosis of diabetes, hypertension, or other vascular disorders such as vasculitis
