What this Trial Is About

Urinary tract dilatation is a common congenital condition in children, often detected early due to advances in imaging techniques, especially prenatal ultrasound screening. This condition is found in about 1-2% of pregnancies and is more common in males. Early diagnosis aims to monitor urinary tract abnormalities and prevent complications that could lead to kidney damage. However, detecting mild abnormalities that do not require treatment can cause unnecessary worry and medical tests for families. Postnatal diagnoses occur through childhood screenings, follow-ups after urinary infections or abdominal pain, or monitoring during hospital stays for other reasons. This research retrospectively reviews patients diagnosed with urinary tract dilatation either before or after birth. It evaluates diagnostic approaches, disease progression, and different outcomes over time. The study focuses on identifying which cases need close monitoring and additional tests, such as specialized imaging techniques, and determining the best timing for these examinations. It also compares the risks and benefits of prenatal versus postnatal screening to assess if postnatal screening is necessary when prenatal diagnosis is already done. Participants in this study are children diagnosed with urinary tract dilatation who have undergone at least two ultrasounds postnatally. Researchers review ultrasound measurements, check for kidney and bladder abnormalities, and assess kidney size and tissue characteristics. The study analyzes these data to understand the condition's progression and outcomes and to improve management strategies. Data collection covers a long-term follow-up period, allowing evaluation of the condition from diagnosis through ongoing monitoring.
