Who Can Participate
Eligibility Criteria
You may qualify if you...
- Rectal adenocarcinoma stage cT1-3 or yT1-3 located below the anorectal sling (within 4 cm from anal verge) requiring ISR surgery
- Tumor-Node-Metastasis (TNM) clinical stage I to III rectal adenocarcinoma
- Scheduled for curative and elective surgery
- American Society of Anesthesiology (ASA) class I to III
- Age between 20 and 75 years
You will not qualify if you...
- Rectal adenocarcinoma stage cT4 invading external sphincter or pelvic organs
- Evidence of distant metastasis
- Primary tumor size 8 cm or larger in diameter
- Morbid obesity with body mass index (BMI) 40 kg/m2 or higher
- Previous major surgery on the lower upper abdomen
- Tumor invasion to lateral pelvic side wall requiring lateral pelvic lymph node dissection
- Poor anorectal function with Wexner incontinence score 10 or higher
