Who Can Participate
Eligibility Criteria
You may qualify if you...
- Capacity to provide informed consent
- At least 18 years of age
- Good physical health with no significant medical conditions
- Diagnosis of major depressive disorder with current major depressive episode per DSM-5
- Montgomery-�C5sberg Depression Rating Scale score over 29 indicating at least moderate depression
- Sleep latency ranging uniformly up to 128 minutes
You will not qualify if you...
- Currently taking effective antidepressants
- Lifetime history of psychosis
- Drug or alcohol dependence in the past 6 months or abuse in the past 2 months
- Unstable medical condition not stabilized for at least 3 months
- Nicotine use within the last year
- Currently on medications known to affect glutamate
- Sleep disorders other than insomnia, such as sleep apnea
- Recent regular night shift or rotating shift work within 1 year, or travel across more than one time zone within 3 months, or plans for such during the study
- Use of medications or substances affecting sleep, including consuming more than 600 mg caffeine daily
- Contraindications for PET or MRI, including pregnancy or breastfeeding
