The purpose of this study is to evaluate which operative technique should be used for managing simple ovarian cysts in girls and adolescents. The two techniques that are being compared are laparoscopic cyst enucleation and laparoscopic cyst deroofing. Who Can Participate
Eligibility Criteria
You may qualify if you...
- Symptomatic simple cysts 4 cm or larger with indication for surgery
- Asymptomatic cysts 4 cm or larger requiring surgery due to persistence or growth
- Asymptomatic cysts 4 cm or larger with other known pathology requiring surgery
- Age between 12 months and 18 years
- Parent/legal guardian and patient consent given; patients unable to consent must show no unwillingness
- Symptomatic simple cysts 4 cm or larger requiring surgery on both ovaries (each ovary counted separately)
You will not qualify if you...
- Neonatal ovarian cysts (age under 12 months)
- Age over 18 years
- Complex cysts with solid parts or suspicion of cancer
- Paratubal or paraovarian cysts
- Medical conditions that prevent cyst removal (e.g., severe bleeding disorders)
- No signed consent or insufficient language skills (German, French, or English) to consent
