Eligibility Criteria

Eligible

You may qualify if you...

  • Adults aged 25 to 40 years of any gender
  • Diagnosis of low back pain with unilateral leg pain (sciatica) lasting 3 to 12 months for patient group
  • Lumbar disc herniation at L4-5 confirmed by MRI for patient group
  • Positive straight leg raising test for patient group
  • Control group free from nerve irritation symptoms with normal neurological exam including reflexes, sensation, negative straight leg raising, and motor strength
Not Eligible

You will not qualify if you...

  • Diabetes mellitus
  • Any type of polyneuropathy
  • Trauma of lumbar spine
  • Previous history of back surgery
  • Piriformis syndrome
  • Conditions reducing ultrasound image quality such as thick gluteal subcutaneous fat
  • Hip joint prosthesis
  • Professional athletes
  • Skin infection
