Evaluation of Serum Lumican and Bone Health in Postmenopausal Women to Assess Fragility Risk Beyond Bone Density

Osteoporosis is a common cause of fractures and health problems in postmenopausal women. This study investigates whether levels of lumican, a protein involved in bone and muscle health, can reveal hidden risks of fragility and fractures beyond what bone mineral density BMD measurements show. Researchers aim to understand how serum lumican relates to bone density, muscle strength, and clinical indicators of fragility in this group. Participants are postmenopausal women undergoing routine osteoporosis evaluation. They will have bone mineral density measured by DEXA scan, routine laboratory tests for osteoporosis, fracture risk assessment using FRAX, handgrip strength measurement, and blood draws to measure serum lumican. No treatments or interventions are given as part of this observational study. Throughout the study, participants will provide blood samples and undergo standard osteoporosis assessments. Researchers will collect clinical data including history of falls and fractures. The main outcome is to examine the association between serum lumican levels and bone mineral density at baseline. The study helps explore new ways to identify patients at risk beyond conventional measures, with all procedures aligned with routine clinical care.
