What this Trial Is About

This research focuses on obstructive sleep apnea (OSA), a condition where the airway becomes partially or fully blocked during sleep, causing intermittent drops in oxygen and disrupted sleep. OSA has been linked to higher risks of cognitive problems like mild cognitive impairment (MCI) and Alzheimer's disease. The study aims to explore how sleep apnea and related sleep issues relate to cognitive function in people reporting cognitive difficulties, contributing to future research in this area. Participants will undergo cognitive testing, complete questionnaires, and receive a Home Sleep Apnea Test (HSAT) at the start of the study. This observational study examines sleep study parameters and various symptoms, including daytime sleepiness, insomnia, depression, and daily living activities, alongside cognitive function and the ability to manage cognitive interference. During the study, researchers will assess sleep quality, apnea symptoms, and neurocognitive status using baseline tests and questionnaires. The study also includes monitoring of mood and daily functioning. Participants' involvement centers on providing data through tests and self-reports, with no active treatment given. The study is led by The University of Hong Kong and started in March 2023, continuing to March 2027.
