Who Can Participate
Eligibility Criteria
You may qualify if you...
- Self-reported African American/Black female
- Aged 24 to 65 years
- Insufficiently active with less than 60 minutes of moderate-to-vigorous physical activity per week
- Body mass index (BMI) greater than 30 kg/m2
- Able to speak and read English
- Owns a smartphone capable of downloading apps
- Owns a smartphone capable of receiving text messages
- Willing to receive a physical activity program via smartphone
- Willing to use their first name or an alias on the Smart Walk app profile page
You will not qualify if you...
- Plans to move out of the Phoenix area within the next 12 months
- Positive response to any item on the Physical Activity Readiness Questionnaire (PAR-Q) without a doctor's note approving participation
- Resting systolic blood pressure above 180 mmHg or diastolic blood pressure above 120 mmHg at any study assessment
- Currently participating in another diet or weight loss study
- Pregnant or planning to become pregnant within the next 12 months
