This study will test whether a novel intervention, Virtual Hope Box Enhanced Facilitation (VHB-EF), reduces suicide risk in Veterans after discharge from inpatient psychiatric hospitalization. Who Can Participate
Eligibility Criteria
You may qualify if you...
- Veterans aged 18 or older
- Admitted to inpatient psychiatric unit for a recent suicidal crisis
- Medically stable and able to provide informed consent as determined by treatment team
- Score of 3 or higher on the Callahan 6-item cognitive screening
- Report current suicidal ideation (positive score on Scale for Suicidal Ideation items 4 and 5 in week before hospitalization)
- No use of the Virtual Hope Box app in the past 12 months
- Access to a smartphone to download the app
You will not qualify if you...
- Do not understand English
- Are prisoners
- Unable to provide informed consent
- Have severe psychotic symptoms or cognitive deficits preventing understanding of intervention or assessments
- Do not have access to a smartphone
