Eligibility Criteria

Eligible

You may qualify if you...

  • Male or female, any race
  • Age 18 years or older
  • Able to provide written informed consent
  • Diagnosis of Multiple Sclerosis confirmed by referring physician
  • Active disease with at least 1 enhancing lesion in the last 6 months
  • Treatment naive except for relapse-related therapies like corticosteroids or plasmapheresis
  • Planning to start a high efficacy disease modifying therapy such as ocrelizumab or natalizumab
  • Clinical laboratory tests including CBC and BMP within 3 months before enrollment without significant abnormalities
Not Eligible

You will not qualify if you...

  • Presence of low binding polymorphism for TSPO
  • Allergy or hypersensitivity to [11C]-CS1P1, [11C]-DPA-713, [18F]-FDG, or their ingredients
  • Contraindications to PET, CT, or MRI scans making participation unsafe
  • Estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) less than 60 (related to gadolinium use)
  • Severe claustrophobia
  • Currently pregnant or breastfeeding
  • Receiving radiation therapy
  • Insulin dependent diabetes
  • Contraindications to lumbar puncture including use of certain blood thinners or coagulopathy
  • Any condition increasing risk or interfering with study procedures such as renal or liver failure, advanced cancer
  • Participation in other radiation-based research within 12 months exceeding 5 rem total dose
