Validation of the Spanish KOQUSS-40 Questionnaire to Assess Quality of Life in Adults After Gastric Cancer Surgery

This research aims to translate, culturally adapt, and validate the Korean KOQUSS-40 quality of life questionnaire into Spanish, creating the SPQUSS-41 tool. It focuses on patients who have undergone curative surgery for gastric cancer, addressing the significant impact such surgery has on quality of life, including gastrointestinal symptoms and emotional distress. The goal is to provide a specific and reliable measure for evaluating quality of life in clinical trials and patient care. The study is designed as a prospective, multicenter observational cohort under Spains EURECCA Esophagogastric Cancer Project. It includes two phases development and validation. In the development phase, the questionnaire will be translated, reviewed by experts, pre-tested with 20 patients, and pilot tested with 85 patients. The validation phase involves administering the final questionnaire to at least 410 patients and conducting a retest after 30 days to assess reliability, alongside other quality of life questionnaires. Participants will be adults over 18 years old, between 1 month and 5 years after curative gastric cancer surgery. Data on demographics, surgery details, and treatments will be collected and recorded securely. Researchers will assess the questionnaires validity, internal consistency, and test-retest reliability using statistical methods. The study is expected to last 1 to 2 years, involving multiple centers, with results to improve quality of life assessment and patient-clinician communication.
