Who Can Participate
Eligibility Criteria
You may qualify if you...
- Patients 65 years old or older
- ASA Class I to III
- Scheduled for surgical repair of femoral neck, intertrochanteric, or subtrochanteric hip fractures
- Time from diagnosis to surgery is more than 48 hours
You will not qualify if you...
- Unable to walk about 3 meters or across a room without assistance before the fracture
- Emergency surgery required
- Presence of congestive heart failure, asthma, anemia (hemoglobin less than 90 g/L), or hypoalbuminemia (albumin less than 35 g/L)
- Abnormal blood clotting function
- Severe aortic stenosis
- Injection site infection or increased intracranial pressure
- Participation in previous trials or deemed unsuitable for randomization by doctor
- Unable to provide written informed consent or consent from representative
