Who Can Participate
Eligibility Criteria
You may qualify if you...
- Female patients
- Age ranging from 18 to 65 years
- American Society of Anesthesiologists (ASA) class no more than II
- Diagnosed with unilateral breast cancer
- Scheduled for unilateral modified radical mastectomy
You will not qualify if you...
- Pregnant female
- Existing Horner syndrome
- History of any neuromuscular disease
- Allergy to local anesthetics
- History of analgesic use
- Any deformity or previous surgery in the neck, ipsilateral arm, or breast
- Contraindications to the procedure such as coagulation disorders, local infection, or sepsis
- Contraindications to sympathetic blockade like decompensated cardiopulmonary or hemodynamic disorders
- History of psychotic disorders including depression, bipolar disorder, or personality disorder
- Beck Depression Inventory (BDI) score greater than 13
