What this Trial Is About

Teachers face increased risks of depression and anxiety, especially during their training and transition into the classroom. This research aims to evaluate a mobile mindfulness program called the Healthy Minds Program (HMP) designed to support pre-service teachers in maintaining their mental health. The study will explore the program's feasibility, acceptability, and potential to prevent worsening depression and anxiety, as well as its impact on turnover intentions and underlying mechanisms. Participants will be randomly assigned to either continue their daily life as usual or engage with the Healthy Minds Program app. The study focuses on pre-service teachers in their final year of training, following them over time to assess how the app might help them manage stress and mental health challenges as they enter the teaching profession. During the study, participants will report on depression and anxiety symptoms at the start, after three months, and at 3-month and 12-month follow-ups. They will also share their intentions regarding leaving the teaching profession at later follow-ups. The research includes regular assessments via questionnaires, aiming to understand the program's usefulness and gather information on participant experiences and mental health outcomes over an extended period.
