Eligibility Criteria

Eligible

You may qualify if you...

  • Good health as verified by screening examination
  • Able to read English and complete study evaluations and provide informed consent
  • HIV-1 lab test positive with undetectable viral load and good ART adherence (for PLWH groups)
  • For PLWH with cannabis use disorder and depression: positive cannabis urine test and meet DSM-5 criteria for cannabis use disorder and major depression
  • For healthy controls: HIV-1 test negative, urine toxicology negative, no major medical or psychiatric diagnoses
  • For PLWH only group: HIV-1 positive, urine toxicology negative, no major medical or psychiatric diagnoses
  • For cannabis use disorder only group: HIV-1 test negative, urine toxicology positive, meet DSM-5 criteria for cannabis use disorder and major depression
Not Eligible

You will not qualify if you...

  • Current moderate or severe substance use disorder for cocaine, alcohol, opiates, sedatives, or nicotine
  • Current or past cocaine or opioid use disorder
  • History of any psychotic disorder
  • Current diagnosis of bipolar disorder or PTSD
  • Severe psychiatric disability including suicidal or homicidal ideation or current mania
  • Significant medical conditions affecting brain, kidneys, thyroid, or heart
  • Use of medications affecting HPA axis or immune function
  • Women who are pregnant, nursing, or using hormonal birth control affecting cortisol responses
