Who Can Participate
Eligibility Criteria
You may qualify if you...
- Age 18 years or older
- Tissue diagnosis of primary bone or soft tissue sarcoma, or high suspicion approved by the principal investigator
- Presenting to the Orthopaedic Surgery Service
- Treatment plan includes surgery at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center for primary sarcoma
- No previous treatment for sarcoma
- Proficient in English, speaking "very well" and preferring English for healthcare discussions
You will not qualify if you...
- Significant psychiatric disturbance based on self-report or chart review that would prevent participation (such as severe mental illness, history of suicide attempts, or psychiatric admissions)
- Mental health urgency or emergency at the time of randomization requiring evaluation, as judged by clinical scores or orthopaedic physician
- Patients with no or mild symptoms of anxiety and depression were included due to risk of symptom development and underreporting
