Iodine as an essential trace element for human, both excessive and insufficient intake would be harmful for human health. As susceptible population, children will be more sensitive to adverse effects caused by inadequate intake of iodine since they are at the peak of growth and development. Meanwhile, there are few direct evidence to establish dietary intakes levels of iodine for 3-6 years old pre-school children.

Who Can Participate
Eligibility Criteria
You may qualify if you...
- Children aged 3 to 6 years
- For children with mild malnutrition: hemoglobin less than 110 g/L, or weight for age below the 50th percentile per Chinese 2009 standards, or BMI z score less than -1 according to WHO software
- For children with good nutritional status: healthy with BMI z score between -1 and 1
- Have not been treated for thyroid disease
- Have not used amiodarone or other drugs including iodine supplements during the study
- Have no major diseases, chronic diseases, or relevant family history
You will not qualify if you...
- Long-term low-protein malnutrition
- Long-term low-energy malnutrition
