Who Can Participate
Eligibility Criteria
You may qualify if you...
- For colorectal cancer cohort: Age 18 to 49 years
- Histological or cytological diagnosis of colorectal adenocarcinoma
- Planned colorectal cancer resection biopsy or colonoscopy, including surveillance colonoscopies, or prior surgical resection with tissue samples including normal colon tissue distant from tumors
- Enrollment in Young Onset Gastrointestinal Cancer Prospective Registry (IRB# 20-315)
- For healthy control cohort: Age 18 to 49 years at time of diagnosis
- Scheduled for standard-of-care colonoscopy at MSK or had surgical resection of traumatic colon injury at Shaare Zedek Medical Center
You will not qualify if you...
- For colorectal cancer cohort: Antibiotic use within 6 months before stool sample collection for gut microbiome analysis (only if providing stool sample)
- Known inherited cancer susceptibility gene
- History of inflammatory bowel disease
- For healthy control cohort: Antibiotic use within 6 months before stool sample collection for gut microbiome analysis (only if providing stool sample)
- History of or treatment for cancer within 5 years before registration, except non-melanoma skin cancer, ductal carcinoma in situ, bladder carcinoma in situ, or cervical carcinoma in situ
- Colonoscopy for indications of inflammatory bowel disease, anemia, or genetic predisposition (only if providing tissue sample)
