The purpose is to increase the understanding of the characteristics, circumstances, medical histories and pathologies of children from ages 11 months through 18 years who have died suddenly and unexpectedly, and in some instances, without explanation. The SUDC Registry and Research Collaborative will analyze cases of sudden unexpected deaths in these children to understand risk factors and causes, and develop preventative measures.

Who Can Participate
Eligibility Criteria
You may qualify if you...
- Children aged 11 months to 18 years whose death was sudden and unexplained, including retrospective and prospective cases
- Retrospective cases must have banked DNA specimens available
- Prospective cases must have had a full autopsy and scene investigation
- Family members (parents, siblings, second degree relatives) aged 0 to 100 years may participate in DNA studies if the SUDC case has viable DNA specimens
- Biological siblings and second degree relatives with a history or current heart or neurological condition can participate
You will not qualify if you...
- Children younger than 11 months or older than 18 years cannot participate as SUDC cases
- Prospective cases where death was due to obvious suicide, homicide, or accident are excluded
- Family members without a history or current heart or neurological condition cannot enroll
