What this Trial Is About
In clinical practice, it is sometimes difficult to establish whether a patient's tremor is due to Parkinson's disease or essential tremor. The distinction is crucial as the health implications differ significantly between the two conditions. Therefore, the present study aims to develop a diagnostic method based on machine learning techniques to help differentiate whether a patient's tremor is due to one condition or the other. To achieve this, 110 patients with tremor, correctly diagnosed with either Parkinson's disease or essential tremor, will participate. They will undergo two diagnostic tests (tapping test and Archimedean spiral) to capture data that can be processed using machine learning techniques.

Eligibility Criteria
You may qualify if you...
- Ability to participate in necessary evaluations
- Follow-up care at the Movement Disorders clinic of Hospital Sant Camil-Consorci Sanitari Alt Penedes i Garraf
- Legal capacity to provide informed consent
- Signed informed consent by participant or legal representative
- Diagnosis meeting criteria for Group 1 or Group 2:
- Group 1: Confirmed Parkinson's disease tremor diagnosis with bradykinesia and clinical stages 1-2 per Hoehn and Yahr
- Group 2: Confirmed essential tremor diagnosis with positional plus kinetic/resting tremor, no bradykinesia, and at least 3 years of stable outpatient neurology follow-up
You will not qualify if you...
- Treatment with antipsychotics or antidepressants
- Parkinson's disease patients with dyskinesias
- Treatment with dopaminergic agonists or primidone
- Tremor severity preventing continuous tracing
- Cognitive or affective disorders limiting study participation
- Participation in incompatible clinical studies
- Diagnosed alcoholism affecting handwriting or causing neuropathy
- Peripheral neuropathy of any cause
- Dystonias
- Previous stroke
