Who Can Participate
Eligibility Criteria
You may qualify if you...
- Child is aged 2 years 0 months to 7 years 11 months inclusive
- Child has a documented diagnosis of autism spectrum disorder
- Child exhibits at least one form of daily or hourly self-injurious or aggressive behavior on the Behavior Problems Inventory - Short Form
- Family lives in specified counties in New Mexico and Texas
- Caregiver is comfortable speaking and reading English
- Caregiver is at least 21 years old
- Same caregiver is consistently available for one hour per week for 12 weeks on weekdays between 9am and 7pm
- Caregiver is willing to follow the study treatment plan and have a clinician visit home weekly for 12 weeks
- Family lives in an area with reliable cell phone coverage
You will not qualify if you...
- Caregiver is currently receiving applied behavior analysis services or direct coaching to manage the child's challenging behaviors
- Child shows behaviors that could cause moderate to severe harm requiring medical intervention
- Child has sensory or physical impairments preventing participation or has another genetic condition such as fragile X syndrome
- Caregiver has activity restrictions limiting response to child's behaviors
- Child has a medical condition better treated with medical care
- Child only shows pica behavior at daily or hourly frequency
- Caregiver has another child already enrolled in the study
