Researchers are studying how pregnancy affects the function of the temporomandibular joint (TMJ), oral habits, and pain complaints in women. The study is motivated by observations that hormonal and physiological changes during pregnancy impact the musculoskeletal system and pain sensitivity, along with psychological factors that may negatively influence these changes. Due to limited and conflicting research on TMJ problems and oral habits in pregnant women, this investigation aims to provide clearer insights. The study involves comparing pregnant women diagnosed by ultrasound with non-pregnant women, focusing on TMJ function and oral behaviors. Participants are women aged 18 to 45 who have completed at least primary school and can communicate in Turkish. The study design is cross-sectional and case-control, with no specific interventions applied. Participants will be evaluated for TMJ function and mandibular function over one year. Assessments include examining pain complaints and oral habits to understand their relationship with pregnancy. Researchers will monitor temporomandibular disorder functions and mandibular function as primary outcomes. The study also includes voluntary participation and excludes those with systemic musculoskeletal diseases or disabilities to ensure accurate results.
