Who Can Participate
Eligibility Criteria
You may qualify if you...
- Be male and aged 0 to 17 years
- Scheduled to undergo surgery, chemotherapy, drug treatment, and/or radiation with a high or intermediate risk of causing permanent and complete loss of testicular function
- Have a medical condition or malignancy requiring removal of all or part of one or both testicles
- Have a genetic or autoimmune medical condition that results in declining fertility (e.g., Klinefelter syndrome)
- Have a newly diagnosed or recurrent disease affecting fertility without prior therapy likely causing permanent testicular failure
- Have two testicles if undergoing elective removal of one testicle for fertility preservation, or have one testicle with limited fertility potential and no other preservation options
- Provide informed consent and authorization for specimen collection and release of personal health information
- Consent to serum screening tests for infectious diseases at the time of tissue harvesting
- Undergo full history, physical examination, and standard pre-operative clearance as determined by their primary surgeon
- Patients with testicular torsion or other conditions impairing testicular function may be included if viable tissue is found during surgery
You will not qualify if you...
- Have psychological, psychiatric, or other conditions preventing fully informed consent
- Have an underlying medical condition that significantly increases risk from anesthesia and surgery
- Previously received gonadotoxic chemotherapy or radiation therapy resulting in impaired testicular function
