Who Can Participate
Eligibility Criteria
You may qualify if you...
- Age 16 years or older
- Admitted to an ICU
- Refractory hypotension within 48 hours prior to enrollment requiring ongoing vasopressor use
- Ability to start plasma exchange within 48 hours of starting vasopressors
- At least one new organ dysfunction at enrollment (such as increased creatinine, need for mechanical ventilation or low oxygen ratio, low platelets, or abnormal blood pH with high lactate)
- Known or suspected infection
You will not qualify if you...
- Consent declined by patient, substitute decision maker, or physician
- Shock caused by other conditions (cardiogenic, hemorrhagic, obstructive, neurogenic, or anaphylactic)
- Terminal illness with life expectancy under 3 months
- Pregnancy
