What this Trial Is About

This observational study is conducted at Nice University Hospital to evaluate the presence of three specific CT scan signs near the nerve root in adults experiencing low-back sciatica referred for CT-guided nerve-root infiltration. The study aims to determine how often nerve-root size asymmetry or hypertrophy, peri-radicular infiltration, and spontaneous root hyperdensity occur and their association with the nerve root causing symptoms. The research analyzes pre-infiltration planning CT scans collected between January and July 2024, focusing on patients with clinically suspected nerve root involvement. Participants include adults with low-back sciatica or radicular pain who have been referred for CT-guided foraminal or peri-radicular infiltration. The study involves a retrospective review of existing CT scans performed before the infiltration procedure by radiology residents. There are no additional procedures for participants beyond this imaging review, and no new treatments or interventions are administered as part of the study. Participants involvement includes the analysis of their pre-infiltration CT scans and collection of data on the presence of the three CT signs. Additional assessments include measurements of pre-operative pain levels and quality of life before the infiltration day. Researchers monitor the prevalence of these CT signs to better understand their relationship with the clinically affected nerve root. The study plans to enroll approximately 400 patients, and data collection and analysis will continue through October 2026.
