Comparing Titanium Reinforced d-PTFE and Collagen Membranes for Guided Bone Regeneration in Front Upper Jaw Tooth Replacement

This research aims to evaluate two types of membranes used in guided bone regeneration after tooth extraction in patients needing a single oral implant in the front upper jaw. The study compares a resorbable collagen membrane, which does not need removal, with a non-resorbable titanium reinforced d-PTFE membrane, which may better protect the rebuilt bone volume from external forces. The goal is to measure how well these membranes support bone growth and stability over time. Participants will undergo surgery where a mucoperiosteal flap is raised and bone graft material, made from a mix of the patients own bone chips and a xenogenous bone product, is applied to the extraction site. One group receives the collagen membrane, and the other group the titanium reinforced membrane fixed with pins. The titanium membrane is removed after nine months before implant placement. Patients take antibiotics and anti-inflammatory medications before and after the procedure, and sutures are removed two weeks post-surgery. Implants are placed nine months later. Throughout the study, participants will have several cone beam CT scans at baseline, immediately after bone regeneration, and at 9 months, 3 years, and 5 years to measure changes in horizontal bone dimensions. Other assessments include membrane exposure, bone crest width changes during surgery, bone quality at implant placement, need for additional grafting, soft tissue measurements, peri-implant health, esthetic outcomes, and histological analysis in some cases. The total study participation spans up to five years with regular monitoring and evaluations.
