Non-cystic fibrosis bronchiectasis (NCFBE) is a chronic respiratory disease characterized by a clinical syndrome of chronic productive cough and recurrent respiratory infections in the presence of abnormal and permanent dilation of the bronchi. Recent epidemiological studies have clearly shown that the prevalence and incidence of NCFBE are quickly rising both in high- and low-income countries. With the increase of prevalence, bronchiectasis brings huge medical and economic burden to the society. In this study, the investigator will perform biomarker assessments and multi-omics analysis on NCFBE patients and healthy participants in China to validate the link of disease pathways to pathophysiological features and uncover the molecular endotypes behind clinical phenotypesof Chinese patients with NCFBE.

Who Can Participate
Eligibility Criteria
You may qualify if you...
- Healthy participants must be 30 years or older.
- Participants must be 18 years or older to join the bronchiectasis group.
- Able to give signed informed consent.
- Able to perform acceptable lung function tests according to ATS/ERS 2019 standards.
- Able and willing to comply with study requirements, including reading, writing, understanding questionnaires, and using electronic devices.
- Physician-diagnosed bronchiectasis with clinical history (chronic cough and daily sputum) and chest HRCT confirmation.
- Clinically stable at recruitment; exacerbation patients can join at least 4 weeks after symptoms end.
- If joining during an exacerbation visit, must have baseline visit within 4 weeks plus 3 days after exacerbation ends.
You will not qualify if you...
- Healthy controls with any respiratory diagnosis like asthma, COPD, bronchiectasis, pulmonary fibrosis, or other chronic lung diseases requiring treatment.
- Healthy controls with inflammatory diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis, inflammatory bowel disease, or connective tissue diseases.
- Active cancer except non-melanoma skin cancer.
- Recent antibiotic treatment for respiratory infection within 4 weeks or current sinusitis.
- Contraindications to study procedures including bronchoscopy.
- Current smokers or those who smoked in the past 3 months.
- Treatment with anti-coagulants.
- Bronchiectasis patients with traction bronchiectasis linked to interstitial lung disease or other lung disorders like cystic fibrosis.
- Primary diagnosis of other lung diseases including COPD or asthma unless bronchiectasis is primary.
- Unstable major medical disorders that affect safety or study participation.
- History of alcohol or drug abuse in past year.
- Pregnant or breastfeeding females or within 6 weeks postpartum.
- Altered mental status at consent time.
- Respiratory infection or symptoms within 2 weeks before baseline.
- Participation in study planning or conduct.
- Terminal illness or organ failure unsuitable for study participation.
