Who Can Participate
Eligibility Criteria
You may qualify if you...
- Healthy adults between the ages of 18 and 89
- Chronic spinal cord injury patients at T6 or above
- Injury occurred more than 3 months ago
- Not currently on mechanical ventilation
- Have not received mechanical ventilation via tracheostomy in the past
You will not qualify if you...
- Age 17 years or younger
- Pregnant or lactating females
- History of head trauma causing neurological symptoms or loss of consciousness
- Advanced heart, lung, metabolic, liver, or chronic kidney disease
- Severe obstructive or restrictive respiratory defects by pulmonary function tests or history of tracheostomy
- Morbid obesity defined as BMI of 40 kg/m2 or higher
