What this Trial Is About

Researchers are collecting detailed clinical data on patients who experience delayed or failed bone healing, known as non-union, after fractures of long bones. This register, called TRUFFLE, includes over 800 patient cases and aims to identify factors that affect bone healing by comparing those who heal normally with those who do not. The focus is on understanding risk factors that influence healing outcomes after revision surgery for non-union, with comprehensive data collected on patient health, injury details, and treatment history. All patients with long bone delayed or non-union who undergo revision surgery are registered with clinical details including comorbidities, medication use, soft tissue and radiographic status, and the Non-Union Scoring System (NUSS) score. Data such as age, gender, type and severity of injury, infection status, and previous surgeries are recorded at the time of the non-union procedure. Patients are followed until final bone healing or the end of treatment, with all subsequent revision surgeries also documented. Participants provide clinical data at baseline and during follow-ups to assess bone healing success and the time needed to heal, tracked from at least one year up to five years after the revision surgery. Researchers also collect patient quality of life information and monitor various health parameters and surgical outcomes throughout the study period. The main outcomes measured include the number of patients with successful bone healing and the healing time.
