Who Can Participate
Eligibility Criteria
You may qualify if you...
- 40 years of age or older
- Fluent in English and able to read English
- Currently seeking care for basal joint pain
- Tenderness over the basal joint
- Positive distraction rotation test of the thumb metacarpal base
- Radiographic evidence of Eaton stage 1 or 2 basal joint arthritis only
You will not qualify if you...
- Involved in litigation or worker compensation that may affect motivation for treatment
- Unable or unwilling to participate in the trial
- Diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis or other inflammatory disorders
- Have post-traumatic osteoarthritis
- Currently using Coumadin, steroids, NSAIDs, or Tylenol
- Have diabetes mellitus
- Pregnant or lactating women
- Basal joint arthritis of Eaton stage 3
- Currently seeking other treatments such as splints, corticosteroid injections, or surgery for basal joint arthritis
