The present observational cross-sectional study is aimed to assess: the hidden hypercortisolism (HidHyCo) prevalence in a sample of Type 2 diabetes (T2D) patients and the clinical characteristics more frequently associated with the HidHyCo presence and the HidHyCo prevalence in an adequate sample of obese patients without T2D and the clinical characteristics more frequently associated with the HidHyCo presence.

Who Can Participate
Eligibility Criteria
You may qualify if you...
- Patients with type 2 diabetes (T2D)
- Patients with obesity without T2D
- Age between 18 and 75 years
- Referred consecutively to outpatient clinics for Diabetes and Obesity
- Provided informed consent to participate
You will not qualify if you...
- Pregnancy or breastfeeding
- Sleep apnea
- Hypertension starting before puberty
- Hormonal hypersecreting adrenal mass
- Symptoms of hypercortisolism
- Known secondary hypertension
- Conditions that increase hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal (HPA) axis activity
- Severe autoimmune, rheumatologic, or hematologic diseases
- Alcoholism
- Kidney disease with glomerular filtration rate below 60
- Use of drugs influencing the HPA axis activity
- Presence of type 2 diabetes for patients in the obesity without T2D group
