Eligibility Criteria

Eligible

You may qualify if you...

  • Age 0 to 25 years old
  • Documented diagnosis of sickle cell disease of any genotype
  • Hospitalized for a sickle cell disease-related complication such as vaso-occlusive crisis
Not Eligible

You will not qualify if you...

  • Patient is hemodynamically unstable and unable to undergo consent or study procedures
  • Already diagnosed with acute chest syndrome before admission to the inpatient unit
  • Point of Care Ultrasound operator not available
