Who Can Participate
Eligibility Criteria
You may qualify if you...
- Alive newborns weighing 64 1250 grams
- Gestational age of 28 weeks or less
- On mechanical ventilation with a fraction of inspired oxygen (FiO2) of 0.3 or higher between days 5 and 14 of life
- No immediate extubation expected
You will not qualify if you...
- Presence of other congenital pathologies affecting lung, kidney, or heart function
- Active pulmonary hemorrhage or severe pulmonary hypoplasia
- Refractory hemodynamic instability
- Severe neurological damage (HIV grade III or higher)
- Major surgery within 72 hours prior to inclusion
- Necrotising enterocolitis grade II or higher
- Child of a mother with HIV
