Using E-Nose Breath Test to Track Treatment Response in Adults with Malignant Pleural Mesothelioma Aged 30 to 85

What this Trial Is About

Researchers are evaluating a new technology called breathprinting, or electronic nose E-Nose, to measure how people with malignant pleural mesothelioma MPM respond to standard treatments. The study aims to track changes in E-Nose breathprints over time and compare these changes with standard imaging scans and blood biomarkers related to MPM. This research is conducted by Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center and focuses on understanding treatment responses better. Participants will undergo E-Nose breathprinting tests at the start of the study and during the first three follow-up visits, which coincide with their routine CT chest or PETCT scans as scheduled by their treating physician. The breath samples will be collected in a controlled clinical setting by trained staff using protective equipment. Patients must fast starting at midnight before each E-Nose test or fast for at least two hours prior, with specific dietary restrictions on the day of testing. Additionally, blood samples will be taken at baseline and during follow-ups to assess serum biomarkers linked to MPM. During the study, participants will have E-Nose testing and blood draws aligned with their standard care imaging appointments. Researchers will monitor changes in MPM-specific volatile organic compounds VOCs detected in breath samples for up to one year. The assessments include imaging scans, breath analysis, and biomarker evaluation to track disease status and treatment effects. The total participation period extends through regular follow-ups as part of their clinical care, ensuring ongoing safety and data collection.
