What this Trial Is About

Acute gastrointestinal bleeding can be life-threatening for people with liver cirrhosis, making it important to quickly and accurately assess the risk of death during hospital stays. Researchers are studying and comparing different scoring systems, including a new model called the CAGIB score, against established scores like Child-Pugh and MELD to see which best predicts in-hospital mortality for these patients. This study is an international, prospective, observational trial involving multiple centers to validate these scoring methods. Since this is an observational study, there are no treatment interventions or medications given to participants. Instead, the study involves collecting clinical data from adults with liver cirrhosis who experience acute gastrointestinal bleeding, identified by symptoms such as vomiting blood, black stools, or bloody stools. The study will track patient outcomes during their hospital stay, focusing on mortality and the ability to control bleeding within five days. Participants will be monitored from admission through discharge, which can range from one to six weeks on average. Researchers will review hospital records to measure mortality rates and bleeding control failure. No new treatments are provided, and the study collects data to improve the evaluation of patient prognosis. The trial began in January 2022 and is expected to continue until December 2025.
