What this Trial Is About
Researchers are conducting the Vascular Access Registry (VARegistry), a prospective study at the University General Hospital of Patras, to evaluate the safety and success of different vascular access methods used in percutaneous cardiac procedures. The study focuses on comparing various access points including the radial artery, distal radial artery, and femoral artery, with special attention to ultrasound-guided puncture techniques. This study aims to provide important information about the success rates, complications, and effectiveness of these vascular access methods in real-world clinical settings.
Vascular access is performed using palpation, anatomical landmarks, or ultrasound guidance according to operator preference and current guidelines. If the first chosen access site fails, the operator selects an alternative site. The registry includes various access approaches such as radial artery, distal radial artery, and femoral artery, with or without ultrasound guidance. After the procedure, hemostasis is monitored at specific intervals, and a vascular ultrasound follow-up is recommended after one month to assess artery status.
Participants are monitored throughout their hospital stay based on their initial cardiac intervention. Researchers will collect detailed information on procedure success, including the percentage of successful punctures at the initial site, time to sheath placement, total procedure and fluoroscopy time, radiation dose, and vascular complications. Hematomas are classified using a modified scale, and vascular health is monitored at 30 days post-procedure. The study will continue until June 2026, with data securely managed and supervised by trained staff to ensure quality and patient privacy.
