Who Can Participate
Eligibility Criteria
You may qualify if you...
- Age 50 years or older
- First presentation of suspected giant cell arteritis (GCA)
- New or worsening cranial symptoms related to GCA within 4 weeks of enrollment
- Elevated C-reactive protein (CRP) greater than 1.0 mg/dl
- Planned temporal artery biopsy or ultrasound for diagnosis of GCA
You will not qualify if you...
- Contraindications to MRI such as implanted medical devices, pacemaker, or metallic foreign fragments in body or orbits
- Known allergy to gadolinium
- Women who are pregnant or nursing
- Absence of cranial symptoms related to GCA (e.g., only large vessel GCA)
