What this Trial Is About
The very large sizes can be very disabling and at the origin of a difficult psychological experience. Some families are in demand for a growth-curbing treatment. Currently, only hormonal treatments are offered in France but they are at the origin of many side effects. Northern European countries applied a surgical technique, deviated from the one used for a long time in leg asymmetries, to sterilize the proximal tibial and distal femoral growth cartilage, with most of the growth taking place at this level. The goal of this project is to be able to offer this technique to families in demand.

Who Can Participate
Eligibility Criteria
You may qualify if you...
- Adolescent consulting for very large size with a request for growth inhibition
- Very large idiopathic or secondary height with no other possible etiological treatment
- Tanner score of at least 3 for boys and at least 2 for girls
- Age at onset (A0) less than or equal to 14 years for boys and less than or equal to 12.5 years for girls
- Chronological age between 10 and 16 years for boys and between 8 and 14 years for girls
- Actual height at least 167.5 cm at 10 years old to at least 180 cm at 16 years old for boys and at least 160 cm at 8 years old to at least 174 cm at 14 years old for girls
- Predicted height of at least 198 cm for boys and at least 184 cm for girls
- Radiological persistence of tibial and femoral growth cartilage with estimated residual growth of at least 8 cm
- No psychological contraindication to growth-curbing treatment
- Agreement of parents and adolescent for epiphysiodesis surgery
- Agreement of parents and adolescent to participate in the study
- Affiliated to a social security scheme

- Very large size caused by a medically treatable condition such as acromegaly
- Refusal by parents or adolescent for epiphysiodesis surgery
- Refusal by parents or adolescent to participate in the study
- Medical or psychological contraindication to surgery
